Library Haiku Contest BEGINS
April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, Matheson Memorial Library is holding a haiku contest for adult patrons! Haiku is a short form of poetry that originated in Japan and is formatted as three separate, unrhymed lines with the first and third lines having five syllables and the second line having seven syllables.
Drop off your original haiku to enter the contest! To enter, you can use this digital form https://bit.ly/haiku2025 or the printed form found at the information desk. Submissions will be accepted beginning at 9:00am on April 1, 2025 and ending at 8:00pm on April 30, 2025 and must follow these guidelines:
- Must not contain inappropriate, indecent or obscene content. Judges will determine whether any entry contains anything inappropriate, indecent, or obscene
- Must be original and may not violate any intellectual property rights or copyrights
- Contest is limited to one entry per person, aged 18 years or older
- Entry must follow the three-line, 5-7-5 syllables format
- Confirmation of receipt and comments on your entry will not be provided, nor will your entry be returned
- Your submission will be considered proof of your agreement to these guidelines
- Winners will be notified during the week of May 5, 2025
