AI and Disinformation
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is an incredibly powerful tool that can be used for many different things. However, in the wrong hands, it can do a lot of damage. The same models that allow AI to quickly analyze video can be used to quickly produce and spread disinformation. AI technology that helps law enforcement intercept criminals, can in turn be used by criminals to clone voices and create phone scams. AI Overviews in Google or other search engines, while capable of summarizing vast amounts of information in a short amount of time, are not always accurate, and can give false information.
This presentation was created by Senior Planet, a nonprofit by AARP, dedicated to teaching technology topics to older adults. By understanding how AI scams and disinformation are created, we can better identify it when we come across it in our daily lives. Please note: this lecture will not go over how to use AI tools, but will explain how it can be used to create incorrect, and sometimes harmful, information and videos.
