DESCRIPTION:October is Family History Month\, and the Walworth County Genealogical Society and Matheson Memorial Library are celebrating by offering an introductory program designed to help individuals begin or strengthen their family history research. The program will introduce participants to basic genealogy concepts and research strategies\, including the FAN principle an approach that considers a person's friends\, associates\, and neighbors when researching their family history. Attendees will also learn about tools and databases that can help them locate\, evaluate\, and record genealogical information. Topics will include genealogical record charts and files\, FamilySearch\, Ancestry\, census research\, Wisconsin genealogical resources\, and the use of DNA in family history research. \n\nLeading the presentation will be Karen Weston\, retired UW-Whitewater University Archivist and Area Research Center Curator. Weston has more than 50 years of experience conducting genealogical research. \n\nThe Walworth County Genealogical Society promotes and supports family history and genealogical research by providing resources\, educational opportunities\, and assistance to individuals researching their family roots.
