SUMMARY:Canines' Wild Cousins - Coyotes
DESCRIPTION:They may look like dogs\, but they're not. Coyotes are smart\, playful\, resourceful and devoted caregivers with a very organized social structure. They use their fantastic vocal range to share their joy\, frustration\, and exhilaration through yelps\, barks\, yips and howls that travel miles. These eerie\, often musical and sometimes frightening sounds are part of the reason coyotes are an intriguing part of our landscape.\n\n\n\nOn Wednesday\, August 26\, at 5:00 pm\, a special presentation on coyotes will be given by a Wisconsin DNR wildlife biologist at Price Park near Elkhorn. (Price Park is the site of the County Dog Park opened last year). Geriann Albers\, Assistant Furbearer Specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources\, will speak on the life history and status of coyotes in southern Wisconsin. Come learn if coyotes are increasing in number\, their preferred habitat\, and how they behave around people and domestic animals. Geriann has degrees from the University of Illinois and West Virginia University\, and has studied coyotes in West Virginia\, New York and Chicago.\n\n\n\nThis special presentation is free and hosted by the Kettle Moraine Land Trust and Walworth County Parks. August 26 is also National Dog Day\, so feel free to bring your dog to enjoy Price Park's dog exercise area before the presentation. Dogs must be on a leash outside of the exercise area. Price Park is located at N6421 Hodunk Road\, Elkhorn\, WI. \n\n\n\nDirections and a map of Price Park can be found on the following County website: http://www.co.walworth.wi.us/Public%20Works/Public%20Works%20-%20County%20Recreation/PricePark.aspx\n\nInformation about the Kettle Moraine Land Trust is available at: www.kmlandtrust.org
